Functional Yin and the Subtle Body

What to Expect

Functional Yin Yoga and the Subtle Body is an ideal training if you desire to deepen your practice, share Yin Yoga with others, gain a deeper understanding of functional anatomy, and/or learn more about the Subtle Body.

The functional approach to Yin Yoga is an adaptive, responsive approach to teaching the postures that lets go of striving for a perfect shape and embraces the realities of skeletal variation and individual bodies. This 40-hour training is especially supportive for those who want to share from an inclusive lens and is helpful even for those who have taken previous Yin trainings.

Upon completion of this training, you will:

  • Know the science, postures & language of Yin Yoga from a functional perspective

  • Understand the philosophy, rationale, history, and benefits of Yin Yoga

  • Deepen your knowledge of the subtle or unseen anatomy (meridians, chakras, energetics, koshas, vayus, gunas, etc), and learn to apply this knowledge in your practice and classes

  • Understand functional anatomy to offer variations of poses that achieve the same benefit, and obtain transferable knowledge to other styles

  • Expand your understanding of energetics, yogic philosophy, and Traditional Chinese Medicine to create compelling Yin Yoga experiences

  • Obtain practical skills and experience in teaching, cueing, and sequencing

  • Improve overall teaching; be able to adapt poses to a variety of body shapes & abilities in real-time

  • Learn the art of balancing storytelling and silence, and using music to curate exquisite experiences

  • Learn to work with chronic pain and/or injuries, and a variety of ranges of flexibility and mobility.

  • Gain an understanding of triggering, loaded and/or micro-aggressive language and behaviors; develop inclusive cueing that respects all bodies, genders and situations.

  • Obtain expertise in prop use and accommodations to meet all practitioner where they are in their practice.

  • Employ meditation techniques and Yoga Nidra to create paradigm-shifting experiences

  • By the end of this training you will be fully prepared to share Yin Yoga with others and to cultivate your own deep home practice. Teachers currently registered with Yoga Alliance will receive 50 hours of Continuing Education credits.
